FAQ / Exporting part of an orthophoto with world file
« on: February 14, 2024, 04:18:59 PM »
I can save an orthophoto with a world file, and I can export a selected part of an orthophoto without a world file, but I can't find a way to save or export part of an orthophoto along with a world file.  Is that possible?

No problem.  Thanks Vid.  And thanks for the great software.  3DSurvey is an amazing tool!

Orthophoto / Re: Orthophoto Exports

Eric Evans at Surveyors Source has a good You Tube video ("Field to Finish With 3DSurvey") on how to pull off precise elevations from a point cloud in the 3DSurvey CAD tab. I've found the video really helpful.  In the video, Eric pulled off the edge of a concrete stairway and created a 3D polyline line with it.  He used the CAD feature that 3DSurvey added earlier this year.

I recently used that feature to pull off precise points for features partially hidden under vegetation by looking at the hillside at an angle to see the ground surface under the trees and snap to the point on the object I was after.  It's a useful tool.

I was doing a Classification process in 3DSurvey last night but was only part of the way through the Classification Step 1 process when a lightning storm moved in and I had to shut down the computer. I saved the project. When I open it now and select the Point Cloud tab, it still shows everything I had selected where I left off (shaded in red) but if I click on "Classification", it clears all my previously selected areas. Using the "Select" button only selects by polygon but doesn’t seem to get me back to the into classification process. Is there a way to get back to Classification Step 1 and continue where I left off without losing my "Classification Step 1" selecting work or do I need to start over?

General Discussion / Re: Custom Coordinate Systems and RTK Drones
« on: April 13, 2023, 07:55:55 PM »
Not sure if this helps but, I use the Phantom 4 RTK and use a similar workflow.  I either shoot my GCPs in an arbitrary local coordinate system with a robotic total station or have a surveyor shoot them in as local coordinates or modified State Plane (which is still basically local coordinates).  When a survey point with a real elevation is nearby to pull off elevation, I'll tie into that for Z.  To make sure the job processes correctly when Orientating, I always bring in the GCP file as "Local Coordinates".  This approach has worked well for me I usually have very little vertical error.

General Discussion / Re: Contour Lines
« on: April 13, 2023, 07:42:45 PM »
Contours were created using the regular grid mesh which is what I always use with same results.  However, I've found a work-around in AutoCAD using the "Overkill" command to remove those extra overlapping end segments of the contour lines.

General Discussion / Contour Lines
« on: April 11, 2023, 08:53:02 PM »
3DSurvey does a great job creating contour lines but I've found that, when exported as dxf and imported into AutoCAD, contours that appear to be closed are sometimes not closed polygons and can contain overlapping line segments where the polylines would close.  Is there a way to prevent the creation of overlapping line segments?  I usually process the contours in AutoCAD to remove vertices and simplify the contour lines so that AutoCAD can handle them more easily.  Thanks.

Workflows / Classification Settings
« on: March 04, 2023, 08:42:51 PM »
Is there any documentation on what the new ver 2.16 Classification settings do and/or how they affect the results?  I get good results but would like to better understand the process that goes on.  I'd previously been using Cloud Compare but find that 3Dsurvey's new features to work well to give me bare ground; especially now that I don't have to export the point clouds to Cloud Compare for processing and then import back into 3DS for further processing.  Thanks for adding the new processing features!

CAD / Generating CAD Points from a Point Cloud _ Interpolation Radius
« on: October 16, 2022, 09:10:00 PM »
When generating CAD points from a point cloud, and specifying "Snap to Lowest", what is the "Interpolation Radius" and how does changing it affect what point is selected?  For example, I created a point cloud using High Reconstruction and I want to pull out the lowest points on a 30 foot grid spacing to obtain ground surface points around sparsely spaced trees and shrubs.  The prompt defaults to an Interpolation Radius of 3 ft.  What happens in that 3 ft radius?  Thanks.

Mesh / Benefits of creating a full 3D mesh
« on: June 09, 2022, 08:13:03 PM »
What are the benefits of creating a full 3D mesh verses a regular grid mesh?  Does it provide greater detail in surface models such as when exporting a surface model to AutoCAD?

General Discussion / CAD Points

I'm not finding a way to delete CAD points generated from a point cloud.  What am I missing?
