Mission planning / DJI Mini SE and 3DSurvey Pilot
« on: August 31, 2022, 06:29:12 PM »
Hello guys;

Long time user of 3DSurvey Pilot with a phantom 4 pro v2.0 and an iPad but this time I am testing new and lighter gear;

Drone: DJI Mini SE.
Phone: Pixel 6.
App: 3D Survey Pilot App.

3D Survey Pilot recognizes the drone and I am able to configure the mission with no problems. But, app keeps poping the following message:

"Failed to get focus upper bound. The feature is unsupported".

Anyways I keep operating the app until launching the mission. Here every preflight check passes but uploading the mission to drone where I get:

"Mission upload failed: The system is too busy to execute the action".

So, I can not actually fly the mission. This leads me to ask here;

- Is the DJI Mini SE supported by 3D Survey Pilot?
- If so, am I missing something in the new version of the app for android? (I am used to the old version of the app)

Thanks in advance!

Attached 2 pictures with SS from the phone with the messages.

Bug Reports / 3D Survey Pilot - Line mission problem.
« on: October 05, 2021, 07:15:53 PM »
Hello Folks!

Me again reporting another possible bug on the 3DSurvey Pilot App and seeking for your guidance. This time I tested on two different phones with two different drone models and got the same results. I proceed to describe my issues;

* My Flying kit;
-> Drone: DJI P4P V2.0, latest firmware.
-> Phone: Motorola G8 Power Android 11
-> Flying App: 3DSurvey Pilot app latest version from July 14th, 2021.

* Second flying kit;
-> Drone: DJI Mavic pro
-> Phone: Motorola E6S
-> Flying App: 3DSurvey Pilot app latest version from July 14th, 2021.

* The mission that got me the problem;
-> KML lineal mission imported to the Pilot App via KML generated first with QGis and then exported from Google Earth to 3DSurvey Pilot. KML is attached to the post; E377-3-L.zip

* Pipeline I am following to fly;
-> See previous post, 5th message for the pipeline I'm following to successfully execute missions with current android version; https://forum.3dsurvey.si/index.php?topic=38.0

* The problem;
-> Mission upload to drone fails.

* Detailed description of the issue;
-> So this morning I tried to fly a lineal mission in order to survey a road under construction. I got several tips from the video shared by Marko (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcZEMz3nl6M). Sadly he is not using the 3DSurvey Pilot app to fly but the DJI RTK app.

What I did to execute this mission;
At the office I imported the kml into the 3DSurvey Pilot app, configured as it is shown below. Went to the field to install GCP and then proceeded to fly. Did the initial configuration flight to configure camera settings. All good so far. Landed and rebooted all system as I've learnt from my previous posts. Went straight to the 3D Survey Pilot App, opened my stored mission, checked the settings were as prepared at the office, pressed play to do preflight checks. All checks passed but upload mission to drone as shown below.

As I've encountered issues before I did another reboot  of all of the systems (drone + RC + phone) and made sure DJI GO App was closed and not executing in the background after the reboot. Opened 3DSurvey Pilot app, opened my saved mission, same behavior. After this I did several reboots of the systems but had the same result all the time.

I decided to try importing the kml again and defining the settings on site, same behavior same result. Rebooted again, imported kml, defined settings, pressed play, flight check passed but importing mission to drone.

After several tries my coworker decided to go back to the office and fetch his own drone (Mavic 2 Pro) to test on his set up and 3D Survey Pilot App. He has successfully executed missions from polygons before using the app. It took him around 1 hour to reach back in which I tried several times configuring different flying settings to test if it was the settings the problem, in the whole time he was gone I didn't succeed to fly despite trying different options and rebooting several times. Once he arrived I shared the kml line and he tested with his set up. Same result; mission upload failed.

My questions here are;
What am I doing wrong? Do I have a faulty kml line? Do I have wrong flying settings? (I tested several different configurations none worked) Is there a bug with the app? could it be android???

Our final conclusion of the day was that we will try tomorrow again but with a polygon instead of a line, because it has worked fine so far with polygons, this was the first time we tried with a line instead and sadly, we failed. But as you probably know, there is a huge difference between flying a polygon vs flying a line, specially a curvy one as the one of a road.

Any ideas or guidance into this is highly appreciated.

Cheers!

Bug Reports / 3DSurvey Pilot - Drone hovering and not executing
« on: September 15, 2021, 10:49:24 PM »
Hello again folks!

I've been using several more times since my last post the 3DSurvey Pilot App to fly my missions at work. Sadly lately, I would say the last 4-5 missions I've been experiencing a weird behavior with the app and the drone.

The context;

I am using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 for flying and the 3DSurvey Pilot App is installed in a Moto G8 Power with Android version 11.

I have imported my polygons from a kml generated first from QGis, then imported to Google Earth, saved again as KML and then imported to 3DSurvey Pilot (check here; https://forum.3dsurvey.si/index.php?topic=35.0).

As for this last step I've done it with several projects and currently I have 8 projects stored on the phone with the corresponding settings and polygon ready to fly.

I have deleted the default launching app for the phone whenever I connect the remote control of the drone to the phone so I can tell the phone manually what application to open every time I connect it to the remote control. It asks me for allowance to run the app and connect it to a DJI Service in android, I always give it permission.

The problem(s);

When I am about to fly I first open the DJI GO 4 app in order to check drone status, do a test flight and configure the necessary settings for the camera to work as I need to. Then I land the drone and close the DJI GO 4 app. I also make sure that it doesn't keep running in the background of the phone.

I then open 3DSurvey Pilot and search for my stored project. I make sure the settings are the ones I configured, make sure drone says connected, and press play. Now problems start;

First problem I found today; I pressed play to send the information to the drone, first try didn't show anything so I backed, tried again, managed to start passing check-ups, all went well but the icon for mission uploading to the drone kept being in red. I tried a couple of more times with no avail. The settings for the flight are as follow;

Path Angle; 91º
Front and side overlap; 80%
Max Speed; 1m/s
Camera Angle; 90º
Flying Height; 25 mts

After trying a couple of times I messed up with flying speed, tried once again with 2 m/s didn't work, tried again with 3 m/s and this time it worked. It was possible to pass all the checks and then it uploaded the mission to drone. I pressed play to start the mission. The drone took off and stayed hovering in the air about 2 meters above ground doing nothing, just hovering, for a lot of seconds. I landed, restarted the mission, corrected flying speed, press play for check-ups, managed to upload mission to drone, pressed play to execute, drone hovering again not doing anything. This happened for a third time. I landed and rebooted everything. Tried again.

I must add that I have experienced this hovering issue around 3-4 times in the past but restarting the drone and the phone fixed the problem and I managed to execute the missions, didn't work this time after rebooting the drone and the phone a couple of times. Then after several tries I managed to execute the mission.

So I went for the second mission of the day.

Same set-up and same specs, different polygon, different location. I rebooted the phone prior to run the missiong. This time I corrected flying speed before the flight. Did the usual DJI GO 4 App configuring and test flight, landed, tried 3DSurvey Pilot, I had several tries because of problems with check-ups, I rebooted the phone, rebooted the drone, launched all again, this time no DJI GO 4 App, straight to 3DSurvey, managed the check-ups, drone hovering in the air. Landed, tried another app (DroneDeploy), up to the air, hovering problem, landed, tried 3DSurvey app, hovering problem, landed, rebooted all again, tried DroneDeploy, worked this time.

I must add that all the flights I do, I do it with my phone in Airplane Mode in order to not have people calling me in the middle of a mission or trying to use the poor internet coverage we have on site.

So, my biggest issue is that the hovering problem is becoming more recurrent in time, it has also happened with DroneDeploy, but as I use more 3DSurvey rather than DroneDeploy I would like to know your point of view into this issue and what could be the reasons behind it. At some point today I even thought it could be the cable connecting the phone with the remote control of the drone.

The problem with the app not being able to upload the mission to the drone was new today, and therefore I decided to seek for guidance here at the forums.

I am also keen to share the polygons I'm using and the specs of the flights I am doing if it adds to find the problem.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers.

Bug Reports / 3DSurvey Pilot - Doesn't import KML
« on: August 10, 2021, 05:16:29 PM »
Hello Guys;

I've been using 3dSurvey Pilot for a while doing some analysis using the grid and polygon feature in the app and so far, most of the time all has gone well. Some minor issues that are solved by restarting the mobile phone or just simply trying again until it works.

I am trying now to run some analysis using the Import KML feature in the app but sadly every time I try to import a KML the app crashes or hangs being impossible to import any kml polygon to the app.

My mobile is a Moto G8 Power with Android version 11.
The kml files I've tried so far range from 733 to 760 bytes.

Any idea of what is wrong with the app or how to solve this?
