Title: Question about computer hardware
Post by: jimmy.smith on July 05, 2021, 10:41:13 PM
I am planning on a Computer upgrade in the near future. It is possible I will get the NVIDIA QUADRO P620. Is this ok to run with 3dsurvey? Or should it be a RTX version?

Hey Jimmy,

3Dsurvey will work with P620, but note that this is a 7 year old GPU at the time of writing. Its performance will be more then 5 times slower then for example Geforce 1070.

For best price/performance ratio, go for Geforce cards instead of Quadro. At the time of writing, my recommendation would be Geforce 3060.

Hello i have another question about hardware. In my case i have dual cpu motherboard ( 2x xeon e5 2697v3, 14 cores, 28 treads, 128gb ecc dual rank ram, geforce 1080ti 11gb), but if i test 3d survey my computer run only in 50% of using only 1core of processor at bundle adjustment (hybrid mode, extreme, 450 images). Is 3d survey support multicore processing? Thank you…

Hey Peter,

3Dsurvey supports multi core processing. The problem is in communications - it turns out, it is faster if we use only one of your 2 CPUs, because, each of your CPUs can access hal of your RAM memory fast, and it takes long to access data from other cpu's RAM.

Because of that we only proces with one CPU if you have 2 of them.
